You Might Be a Poser-Biker If...
Sep / 10 / 2009
I think whether or not you’re a Poser has to do
with how interested you are in becoming a better
rider and in helping others grow in their
confidence and ability. It’s about humility and
that gut-deep confidence that doesn’t look for
applause. But then, so is life.
(Ouch.)

Not A Poser
You Might Be a Poser-Biker If...
1. Your very first motorcycle, as an adult, was a $20,000 Harley-Davidson.
2. You’re proud that your Harley is five years old and is still pristine — because it has only 2,500 miles on it. (Veterans who were messed up defending their homeland and the genuinely sick and disabled are applauded for riding any number of miles per year, though this is probably a moot point; they’ll put on more miles than that silly Poser anyway.)
3. You never ride in the rain. (Shut up.)
4. You’ve never left the state. (No, the 96 miles from Idaho Falls, Idaho to Jackson, Wyoming doesn’t count. You just went there so you could strut around the boardwalk in your leathers.)
5. You strut around at all. (A diamond never has to try to convince you it’s a real diamond.)
6. And speaking of leathers, you might be a Poser if you wear your chaps with a tank top. (When it’s too hot for sleeves, it’s usually too hot for leather. Now, you might convince me you’re wearing them for safety, but you kind of blow that because you’re wearing a really cool bandana/doo-rag instead of a helmet. Because helmets don’t look cool.)
7. You never change your own oil.
8. You refuse to wave at other motorcyclists on the road because, in your opinion, they’re on the wrong brand of bike.
9. You don’t stop to aid a motorcyclist pulled off to the shoulder of the road unless they’re on the right brand of bike.
10. Lists of stuff like this usually have 10 points, but I have nothing to add. Not gonna waste your time or mine inventing something that doesn’t belong here.
I think whether or not you’re a Poser has to do with how interested you are in becoming a better rider and in helping others grow in their confidence and ability. It’s about humility and that gut-deep confidence that doesn’t look for applause. But then, so is life. (Ouch)
Am I a Poser? Absolutely. Not where it regards motorcycling, but certainly in other areas of my life.
Stay tuned; next time I’ll pick on myself.
Hugs, Sherrie ;-}
